Question for you oppo. I've made a few pieces of furniture and some small sculptures and stuff out of engine parts and other car parts. I'd be interested in trying to sell some of the stuff I make, but I have no idea where I'd post to sell it, what I'd price it at, and how to go about finding buyers. The pieces are stuff like this.
Engine block coffee table.
Crankshaft end Table.
Camshaft lamp.
I'm aware the market for stuff like this is pretty small. I figure there'd be enough niche buyers, and seeing as I could get three pieces out of one engine, I figure I could use the sale of one item to fund the raw materials for the next project.
Any thoughts?

Etsy?

I dunno, etsy?

Posting them here works, but a lot of people love that stuff and have no money. The hard part is lots of people probably want SPECIFIC engines...

Etsy is an option.
Or set up a Facebook page and website.

to all the guys suggesting etsy...
do dudes who would be into engine art/furniture really go browsing around on etsy?
i'd also suggest the for sale sections of make/model-specific forums for the cars from which those engines came.

that's potentially true, which would make it even harder. If that were the case, I'd have to find a buyer first and get all the details of what they want.

1) Make an Etsy page
2) Profit
That stuff looks awesome.

Yea that was my thought with etsy. Right idea for the marketplace, but I don't anticipate too many buyers there.

by the way... how heavy is that v8 coffee table?

Heavy. Which would really limit shipping options, pretty much for all the pieces. That coffee table is easily 200+.

Surprisingly there are a few (5) on there. Not sure how long they've been there though. You could also look into Houzz.com but I'm not 100% sure how that site works in regard to one off pieces or hobbyists. Ebay? Maybe go to local auto shops and try to sell them that way, at least at first?

if I can get the HKS cams for my G35, I'd totally have you make one of the original cams into a lamp. Hell. I'm sure I've got a Celica 22R cam laying around...

Probably doable. How long are the cams? That just plays into how tall the lamp would be I suppose.
As a side note, with the lamp, while I kinda like the sheet metal shade, it's pretty awful for a lamp shade. I'd probably get an actual lamp shade and just make that work.
